The Potential of Total Site Integration for Energy Efficiency Development and for the Energy Transition

After studying Chemical-Engineering at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, M. Böhm joined the Central Engineering Department at Bayer AG, in 1997.
Until end of 2003 he worked in multiple investment projects for Bayer’s Plastics Division as Process Engineer and Project Manager, as well as Owner Representative for Bayer in a LSTK Joint-Venture project with DuPont.

In 2004 M. Böhm switched from the Engineering Department into the Process Technology Department of Bayer Technology Services. There he was responsible for the Conceptual Design of new processes for the production of biofuels.

From 2005 to 2010 he held a principal position as Global Isocyanate Specialist for the MDI production process of Bayer MaterialScience. His main areas were process development, IP-management, know-how transfer, trouble-shooting support and project scope development.

In 2010 he relocated to Texas, USA to first lead the process engineering of an investment project and afterwards to take over the unit lead position for the implementation of the project in the Isocyanate Distillation Unit.

Since 2013 he is responsible as Head of Energy Excellence at Covestro for the Global Energy Efficiency Program and energy related topics, like energy regulations and emission trading.

Elkem – Sustainability in focus

As plant manager for several plants in Elkem over a period of 20 years Alf Tore Haug has been in charge of operation and improvement investments including energy efficiency improvements and climate issues in metallurgical industry. This include installation of energy recovery for electricity production and district heating and new process development for reduced energy consumption in Al, Mn and Si production. Since 2013 Alf Tore Haug has been corporate manager for energy efficiency and energy management, including participation in total investments of 250 MEUR and in charge of research programmes for Carbon Neutral Metal Production. Hans Stam has a back-ground in Process Engineering and graduated from Delft University of Technology with a Masters in 1996. The same year he started with the company and held various positions in Process Technology and Operations. Most recently he was Energy Manager in the Netherlands before starting as Energy Lead for LyondellBasell in January 2014.
